Comandante is a German manufacturer of high-end, precision manual coffee grinders. Unlike many other companies operating in the specialty coffee sector, Comandante's singular objective is to produce high-quality grinders for specialty coffee. In this regard Comandante is unique in their design approach; while current industry trends favour coffee grinders with ceramic burrs, Comandante only uses stainless steel burrs in their designs. Mr. Braune, the company’s founder, believes that using a stainless steel grinder-core in the Comandante grinders allows the grinder to more effectively cut cleanly through the coffee beans without crushing them or producing undesirable coffee dust. In addition, to mitigate any effect that traditional stainless steel may have on the taste of the coffee, Comandante uses a special inert form of steel, High-nitrogen martensitic steel that does not impart any flavour on the finished product. This steel is also advantageous because it is highly wear resistant and retains its sharp edge well. Whereas grinders with ceramic burrs would be damaged if dropped, the Comandante C40 can withstand such a shock without any damage to its cutting blades.
The Comandante C40 MK3 represents the third iteration in the C40 line of manual coffee grinders. It features improvements in burr geometry and structure that improve grinding performance. With this model, users report a smooth, even grinding experience with the ability to adjust the grind-setting-dial to ensure the same uniform grind size every time. The C40 is capable of producing coffee grounds for use in French Press, Turkish Coffee, Espresso and anything else. The C40 package also includes jars for storing your ground coffee or unground beans. The Comandante C40 MK3 comes in a variety of finishes including bamboo with a natural wax coating.
